There are several Hindu temples in and around Atlanta, and as a South Indian wedding photographer, I had the privilege of capturing this moment at the Hindu Temple of Atlanta in Riverdale, GA, located about 19 miles south of the city.
While many rituals are shared across Hindu weddings, traditions and ceremonies can vary greatly by region, community, and even family. One meaningful South Indian wedding tradition is when the bride and groom take turns placing decorated rice on each other’s heads, symbolizing prosperity, well-being, and a joyful life together.
This photo was taken just outside the temple after the ceremony, with the rice still visible on both the bride and groom. The warm sunlight adds a beautiful glow, highlighting the couple in their stunning South Indian wedding attire and jewelry as they begin their life together.
