Without art, a photograph has no life. As an Atlanta photographer, I’m always searching for portraits that feel truly alive, and I had the chance to capture this beautiful African Somali bride as she was getting ready. This artistic mirror portrait was taken at The Opal Event Hall in Lawrenceville, in Gwinnett County, GA - about 35 miles northeast of Atlanta.
The focus of this image is her face, her elegant African royal - style bracelet crown, and her graceful expression. Everything else fades softly into the background, bringing all attention to her and giving the portrait a striking artistic depth.
Somali weddings are rooted in Muslim traditions, and many brides wear a hijab as part of their cultural heritage. The way her face appears in the mirror, framed through her elbow and highlighted by her hijab, creates a timeless, glowing portrait.
